VMware Products:
The VMware product line runs different operating systems. It introduced desktop software that runs on:
- Microsoft Windows
- Linux
- And macOS
VMware has also produced an enterprise software hypervisor (A platform that allows multiple operating systems to run on a host computer at the same time). For servers. VMware ESXi, is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on server hardware, without requiring an additional underlying operating system. It made the company to the success of today.
VMware also released an open source platform-as-a-service system called Cloud Foundry, along with a hosted version of the service in April 2011.
The following are some of the products of VMware.
VMware vSphere:
VMware vSphere uses the virtualization power to convert data centers to a simple cloud.
It can provide flexible and reliable IT services. As a cloud operating system, Vmware vSphere adds and combines physical hardware that underlies multiple systems, by managing a large collections of infrastructure (such as CPUs, storage, and networking) as a seamless and dynamic operating environment. Thus providing a virtual resource pool for data centers. It also manages the complexity of a data center.
VMware vSphere is made up of the following component layers:
Infrastructure Services:
A set of services provided to aggregate, abstract, and allocate infrastructure or hardware resources. Infrastructure Services can be categorized into:
VMware vCompute: vCompute services aggregate underlying disparate server resources across many discrete servers and assign them to applications.
VMware vStorage: The most efficient use and management of storage in virtual environments is enabled by this set of technologies.
VMware vNetwork: vNetwork is a set of technologies that simplify and enhance networking in virtual environments.
Application Services:
Application Services are the set of services provided to ensure security, scalability and availability for applications. Examples include Fault Tolerance and HA.
VMware vCenter Server:
It provides a single point of control of the datacenter or more technically it provides centralized management for datacenters. VMware vCenter Server provides essential datacenter services such as:
- Control
- Access
- Configuration
- And performance monitoring
Physical resources from multiple ESX/ESXi hosts are aggregated by vCenter Server. And are presented as a collection of simple and flexible resources for the system administrator, to provision to virtual machines in the virtual environment.
vCenter Server components are:
- User access control
- Core services
- Distributed services
- Plugins
- And various interfaces
Clients (VMTN Global Forums):
The VMware vSphere datacenter can be accessed by users through clients such as the vSphere Client or Web Access through a Web browser.
Today, the VMwear has software for the following layers & categories.
SDDC Platform:
The Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) platform supports any device, any app and any cloud. It brings together VMware’s compute, storage and network virtualization into a natively integrated stack, delivering enterprise-ready cloud infrastructure capabilities that are common to both private and public clouds.
Cloud Foundation:
An easy way to deploy and run a hybrid cloud is provided by the VMware Cloud Foundation. VMware Cloud Foundation provides integrated cloud infrastructure which includes:
- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- And security
Along cloud management services to run enterprise applications in both private and public environments.
Data Center & Cloud Infrastructure:
Begin the cloud journey with server virtualization. Progress toward a completely virtualized software-defined data center architecture: virtualize storage, networking, and security to create virtual data centers.
Simplify the provisioning of IT resources and applications and make them available for consumption in minutes. Round off a private cloud by automating management for optimum capacity utilization, compliance and performance with the following supporting VMware.
vSphere with Operations Management:
vSphere with Operations Management takes vSphere to the next level, with intelligent operations and consistent management. vSphere provides you with better insight,
resulting in stronger performance and availability.
vSphere:
With the world’s leading virtualization platform:
- Consolidate servers
- Improve availability
- Enhance performance o
- And optimize capacity
Networking & Security:
If your virtual machine network is connected to a physical network, it may be subject to violations, just like a network of physical machines. Although the virtual machine network is isolated from any physical network, the virtual machines in the network can be attacked by other virtual machines on the network. The requirements for securing virtual machines are often the same as for securing physical machines.
Virtual machines are isolated from each other. A virtual machine is not able to read or write the memory of another virtual machine, access its data, use its applications, and so on. However, within the network, any virtual machine or group of virtual machines can still be the target of unauthorized access from other virtual machines and require additional protection by external means. That is why the networking & security will be paramount important.
NSX:
NSX enables the creation of entire networks in software and embeds them in the hypervisor layer, abstracted from the underlying physical hardware. Without the need to modify the application, all network components can be provisioned in minutes. NSX is now also available as a service:
VMware NSX Cloud delivers consistent networking and security for cloud-native applications. The service improves operational scalability, control, and visibility – with lower OpEx – across native public clouds such as AWS.
AppDefense:
VMware AppDefense is one of the data center endpoint security products that protect applications running in virtualized environments. AppDefense understands an applications working and monitors for changes to that intended state that indicate a threat, rather than chasing after threats. When a threat is detected, AppDefense automatically responds.
vRealize Network Insight:
It delivers intelligent operations for software defined networking and security across virtual, physical and multi-cloud environments
VMware vRealize Network Insight helps it’s users build a highly-available, secure and optimized network infrastructure across multi-cloud environments.
- It accelerates micro-segmentation planning and deployment
- Enables visibility across virtual and physical networks
- And provides operational views to manage and scale VMware NSX deployments.
Storage & Availability:
Through pervasive hypervisor, VMware wants to germinate storage architectures, bringing to storage the quality of being cost-effective and efficiency and uncompounded that server virtualization brought to compute.
Through a virtual data plane, Software-defined storage (SDS) abstracts the underlying storage, making the VM and application, the fundamental unit of storage management and provisioning across heterogeneous storage systems.
By creating a flexible separation between available resources and applications, all IT resources needed by an application can be balanced by the hypervisor such as:
- Compute
- Memory
- Storage
- And networking
vSAN:
A core building block for the Software-Defined Data Center. Industry-leading Hyper-Converged Infrastructure solutions is powered by VMware vSAN with a vSphere-native, high-performance architecture.
Site Recovery Manager:
VMware Site Recovery Manager the leading disaster recovery software in industry enables application mobility and availability across sites in private cloud environments with:
- Policy-based management
- Non- disruptive testing
- And automated orchestration
Hyper-Converged Infrastructure:
vSAN ReadyNode:
Selecting a vSan ReadyNode involves just choosing the vSAN version you want to deploy,
- Pick a ReadyNode profile based on your specific needs
- Select your preferred server vendor
- And then pickone of the available models.

Network Functions Virtualization:
It has drawn significant attention from both academia and industry as an important shift in telecommunication service provisioning.
By decoupling network functions (NFs) from the physical devices on which they run, NFV has the potential to lead to significant reductions in operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenses (CAPEX) and facilitate the deployment of new services with increased agility and faster time-to-value. The NFV paradigm is still in its infancy and there is a large spectrum of opportunities for the research community to develop new architectures, systems and applications, and to evaluate alternatives and trade-offs in developing technologies for its successful deployment.
