How to write a blog post that will engage visitors – Blog Writing Tips and Ideas

Writing blog posts is demanding and any person who has to write posts continuously and regularly will agree how daunting a task it can be. It gets easier with time however, and every blogger gets used to the blog writing process. Blog writing tips and ideas are important to any blogger. Once you attract lots of traffic and visitors to your blog it is easy for you to slacken and compromise the quality of your posts. The blog Website visitors are not forgiving about this. Your web visitors will not come back to your blog if they notice quality of your posts is not as informative or as good as it used to be.

You therefore need to write web blog content that will engage the website visitors. By engaging the visitors I mean actually getting them to read the posts and not scanning through the post . Scanning though an article  is a common practice when it comes to reading on the internet.

The guidelines given here should add knowledge to what you already know about blog writing. Blogging is a skill that is perfected with time and you should get as much knowledge as you can to ensure you retain a following for your blog.

Tips to writing better blog content…

  1. Use simple and plain language in your blog posts

Vocabulary

Who are you writing your blog post for? Who is your intended blog audience? Are you writing for Prof, the Tech professor who understands the term algorithm or Maria, the artist who understands the term procedure? The urge to use complicated terms happens to all learned people. When it comes down to it, use simple terms that will be appreciated by all, unless you are targeting a specific kind of audience on your blog. Nobody has time to read your blog and at the same keeps referring to the dictionary, they will simple click the back button and find another website with the topic they are looking for.

Syntactic and semantics (sentence construction and communication)

Write simple and comprehensive sentences.Unless your blog is one for riddles, complicate things as much as your audience likes and prefers. Do not leave the readers guessing  the meaning of a paragraph. If your website is not a cryptographic website, whereby users are supposed to crack some puzzles, then keep it simple and your blog will be well appreciated by readers. Use proper grammar. Proper grammar is not only professional but also earns you respect from the blogging community and your audience. If your blog does not consider formality a factor, be free to use any language your web visitor will understand. Remember you are writing for a particular audience . It is therefore important that you understand who you are writing for. Try to establish  what complexities your website visitors  bear when it comes to language.

  1. Structure the blog with descriptive titles

Structure the blog content well. Use descriptive post titles to divide the web content. Users scan the website before they read the post. This they do in trying to establish value worth of the content against what they are looking for. If they cannot establish the value well in advance, they will not read the post.

If your website visitors find that the content in your blog is all piled up in one huge paragraph, they will be intimidated and leave. Divide content using titles and subheadings for each section. This makes your blog content more readable and helps your users navigate easily within the content. Especially when you have a long post this is a huge factor in helping your visitors navigate and read your blog post.

How do you achieve this in your posts?

-Use short paragraphs in blog content

-Use short comprehensive sentences

-Use bullets and numbering where most appropriate to enable easy reading of the blog

-Group and separate ideas in paragraphs, the ideas that jointly make up the topic of the blog

  1. Descriptive  Images that speak

Statistics have shown that blog content with images are most read compared to those without images. This is not a reason for you to use any image on your blog post. Catchy images are…yes catchy but what purpose are they serving on the post? People may end up looking at the images but they are not going to read the content which is more important than the image.

People need to associate your blog with useful content that serves to provide them with the knowledge they seek. If you use diverting images that do not let visitors associate your blog with quality content that will not help you create followers for your blog.

What images should you use?

Use Images that will help in expanding on the content. If you are writing a product review, a picture of a real person using the product is not a bad pick for the image on that particular paragraph.

Use images that are not too abstract and are related to what you are writing about. In most of the times you will just know whether an image would be fit for the content you are writing about.

Using images on your posts makes the content more user friendly. Resize and tweak the images appropriately to ensure they appear right on the page.

As a blogger you must take note of copyright infringement and Intellectual Property over the internet. You can not download any image and use it without knowing what permissions are involved with using that image. There are images that can be used under the creative commons license. Most of these can be used for free all you might need to do is acknowledge the source and link back to the original source. There are also different types of the creative commons licenses that you can read all about on the internet. Do not be on the sorry side, take note of images you are using on your posts.

  1. Write from the heart / choose the right topic- Or you will be lost like a ship in the night

We have all heard of passionate writers. Those great writers that make you feel great and wish the post could last a life time. You could be great too. Write what you understand best. Do your research and talk to the reader with your words. Whatever you are writing about must be well communicated and portrayed.

The Blog Topic

Do not write on a topic just for the sake of creating your blog post and adding content to your blog. Write what you feel good writing about. Write about what you understand the most and your authority cannot be questioned in content delivery. Write about topics that you are most confident about.

As much as you are writing what interests you the most, you must maintain a high relevance level to your blog/ website. You cannot write topics that veer from the main objective of your website. There has to be consistency on your blog, unless it is a news bulletin website and has no consistency of content.

You must choose a topic that is comfortable for you and you have enough knowledge to write about. With enough knowledge you are able to get into details and create more blog content that is good for search engine storage.

Your Passion

What are you enthusiastic about? Are there topics that excite you to write on? What is your field of interest? Is it technology and gadgets, fashion and trends, recipes and cuisines or media and designs? Whatever you are most passionate about is what you should consider writing on.

Blog topics that you write on with a sense of passion are usually reflected in the actual content of the blog. Such posts are rich in content and are more appreciated by your website visitors.

Choose your blog topics according to your passion and what you can handle.

Audience

You must know who you are writing for. Spend your time reflecting and ask yourself who you are writing for. Content is king and content is power too when it comes to search engines. You must know who you are writing for because provided your content is indexed by the search engines anyone has access to your blog. Therefore knowing who your ultimate audience is, is not an easy task that can be decided by you or your content. You may still have to know who you target with your post.

Research

Dig into the topic like a pro. Do not be shallow. Let it not just be about another post for you. Get all angles for that topic. Go to the library if you have to. The internet is the single source largest information hub that you must use. Do not be lazy. Lazy posts are too oblique to the mind and the eye of the reader, give detail. If you are writing about a  phone, go into deep details. talk about the specs of the phone, talk about reviews you came across, do not leave out anything. When you write a post let your blog post be the one stop for research and confirmation.

  1. Do not rule out length

I remember one time I was searching on how to negotiate like a pro, so I went over to youtube to find the best of what I could find. I know negotiation is not a 150 words topic so I never really did bother with videos that were less than 20 minutes long. It is not because they had nothing to offer, I just felt that at that point I was too thirsty to get tiny bits of information while I could easily get lots more information in longer videos.

Information is king, as has been said, and when you get a thirsty enough reader they will want to read blog articles that they feel will satiate their thirst and hunger. If there is more useful information to be added, then do it. If you can give real life examples or you can give case studies that will help expand on the article do that. Just don’t be lazy with your blog content.

More helpful hints with internet users:

Internet users initially do not read the web content, they will first do a scan of the entire web page

Internet users are more appreciative of high quality content than they are of good design- They will compromise high quality content for the ugly designs and misplaced ads on your website.

Users have no time to wait, they will leave your website if you do not fulfill their need(s) and quest(s).

Internet users expect to be able to access your website blog on multiple devices. They expect to use their desktops, laptops, tablets and even phones, so when you hire a web developer ensure you reiterate this to them.
