Autoshare posts to Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Path, Google+)
Sometimes you may want to automatically share your posts to social media as soon as you hit publish on your WordPress blog. This is something I covered in the WordPress Video Blog Tutorial .
In the how to create a video blog tutorial, I used Jetpack. And that is what I will use for this post. You can read extensively about all Jetpack features here.
In brief, Jetpack is a WordPress plugin that comes with a lot of features. And that is why in this video, I mentioned JetPack as one of the top plugins to install on your new Website. JetPack is so invaluable, that Web Hosts like BlueHost pre-install it a long with WordPress (When you do the one click install thing)
The best way to learn about it, is to install it and see all the features that are available. If you are interested in the development side of Jetpack and some awesome tricks, feel free to go through Jeremy’s blog.
Out of all the great JetPack features, in this part we are only interested with the publicize feature. JetPack publicize enables you to share your posts to
- Tumblr
- Path
- Google+
The steps
1. Install JetPack and activate it . That is If you don’t already have it installed.
2. On your WordPress Dashboard, go to Settings > Sharing .
In the above image, I have connected my social Media accounts to WordPress .
3. On each social Network you would like to share to, log in and allow the connection for WordPress .
You can watch the video at the end of this post, to see how I do the above steps. Scroll below .
That’s it.
You may have different admins on your Blog, authorize their social media as well. And this can allow for sharing to different Facebook pages, Google plus profiles and even different twitter accounts. You can see how this can be beneficial for publicizing your blog posts . If you have multiple Facebook pages, you can share the link to all of them. The same for Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and Tumblr .
I have custom post types on my website. And I can therefore confirm that as of the date of me writing this, publicizing posts to social Media only works for the default post type which is Posts. So it will work for you when you authorize your social media . It will not work for custom post types.
The video is an excerpt from my How to Create a Video Blog with WordPress course and it covers the section on Sharing posts to your Social Media Automatically.
