9 Cpanel crash course on bluehost

cPanel is used by most web hosts. If your web host is using cPanel. And you have no idea how to use it. Watch this short video tutorial. I will use cPanel on a Bluehost managed account.

Cpanel is used to manage your website and your web hosting account.

The following are some areas that is managed by cPanel:

Files

The files section enables you to manage files on your website server. You can upload files to your website using the File manger or using FTP.

You can backup your files . You can create backups of your website and download them to your computer.

You can also see the usage of your disk volume. You can see how you are utilizing your storage space.

In most cases you will find yourself mostly using the file Manager or just FTP . The File Manger is an easy way to manage your website files. You may upload and download . Rename and delete files and so on.

eMail

Under eMail you will do lots of tasks related to email.

There are a whole lot of functions you are able to do under the email settings tab. The one you will mostly concern yourself with is email accounts.

Under email accounts you’ll be able to create , delete, change email quotas and so much more.

There are a whole bunch of possibilities under the email tab. Some of these include:

  • Add An Auto Responder
  • Change Disk Quota (Email)
  • Change Password (Email)
  • Check Mail Using Web Mail
  • Configure Mail Client
  • Create A Mailing List

Domain

Under domains, you can do Domain related tasks. Most things on the cpanel have self-explanatory names. You should also be free to click and see what everything is all about.

Depending on the version of the Cpanel on your Web Host, you will see different or similar options.

Some items related to domains that you may encounter include:

  • Addon Domains
  • Manage (Setup) Addon Domain Redirection
  • Manage (Setup) Subdomain Redirection
  • Parked Domains
  • Redirects

  • Subdomains

Software

This part deals with packages and addons supported on the cPanel. This section also contains the installatron .

In the Installatron you will be able to find lots of CMSes such as WordPress , Joomla Drupal . And install them.

cPanel also has various websites backup tools. Backups are an essential part of being online. When disaster strikes, believe me, the only thing that will give you peace of mind is knowing that you have a website backup.

There will be a lot of them here. You can choose to install and play with them on your website.

Don’t be fearful. Create subdomain and play around with the software you will find in installatron.  Other cPanel web hosts may not be using Installatron. Whatever they have , try them out.

Databases

If you are a Web Developer some things you may be concern about may include:

  • create a MySQL database
  • delete a MySQL database
  • check  MySQL database
  • create MySQL user
  • delete  MySQL user
  • phpMyAdmin
  • setup remote access to  MySQL databases
  • repair  MySQL database

Most of the above will not be important to your current situation. The current needs as pertains to this WordPress Video blog series include installing WordPress. And working with files in our WordPress website. All that is covered in the Video above.

Note that some Web Hosts have customized their cpanel. The design may be different but the functionality will remain the same.

In recording this video, I used Bluehost , I could have used any cpanel I have access to.

If you want to “guru-rise” yourself in the matters of the CPANEL and WHM , go to the documentation .
